Bennett Charles, my middle cat, is amazing. He loves attention, both giving and receiving it. Doesn’t matter that I’m rushed to get out the door to the day job or that I’m struggling with writing a difficult scene but have just about got it right. Oh, no. He’s going to make sure his peeps remember we live in his world. 🙂
As I tackled my WIP this week with him draped over one arm as I typed – seriously – I realized he’s been teaching me a lesson all this time. Persistence gains results. For instance, no matter how many times I close the door to my office, he doesn’t take “no” for an answer. He bangs on that sucker until I capitulate and let him in. Like now. *Sigh*
I’ve received multiple rejections from publishers over the years (what writer hasn’t?), and Bennett’s lesson this week really hit home. Gotta stay persistent. . ..Gotta stay the course. . . ..Gotta keep honing craft to become a better writer. Cuz if you don’t keep knocking, no one will know you’re there.
Happy writing!

What an adorable kitty! I love his markings. That face is just precious.
Yep, I know what you mean about our pets teaching us lessons. Persistence is a great one. Cats are so good at that.
Loved this post. Love your cute cat too 🙂
Bennett is so cute, how could you not let him “help” you all the time. Interesting about persistence. I agree in staying the course. But I would also suggest that trying the same thing over and over again, that isn’t working, may need to change. Yes, more craft is always good–even when you are a bestseller. But if certain doors are constantly closed and not providing directions as to how to enter, then you need to find different doors or windows.
Hi Karen! *waves and throws kisses*
Aren’t they great that way? I’ve got three who remind me daily that I am privileged to be their mom. 🙂
Hugs and happy writing,
Melia
Thanks Sue!
And thanks so much for stopping by. Hope to see you back!
Hugs,
Melia
You’re absolutely right, Maggie. Every writer needs to figure out at what point where progress is stalled then decide whether that door is definitely closed. That’s a tough one! Fortunately, we’re in a time where writers have many options for pubbing!
Hugs and happy writing,
Melia
Lessons come from the strangest places, don’t they? Good for Bennett Charles. His persistence is a lesson for all of us. Thanks for another great post, Melia!
Bennett is beautiful. I learn tons from my cats too:)
Cats are so smart. Glad Mr. Bennet Charles is there for you and your muse.
