I love this time of year — hot chocolate, football, pumpkins, Halloween, more hot chocolate. 🙂 Even the rain makes me smile! Okay, not really. . ..
To celebrate this slower, saner time of year (for me, anyway), I’ve got a contest going through October 31st for a $10 Amazon gift card. Leave a comment (and contact information so if you win you can collect your prize) and tell me what you enjoy most about this time of year.
Good luck!

P.S. I’m a guest on Western romance author Jacquie Rogers’ blog! Please check it out for the latest on my WIP, my mom, and my upcoming trip to the Emerald City Writers’ Conference. Jacquie Rogers http://jacquierogers.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-visit-with-melia-alexander.html
Hi Melia, I always enjoy your posts and the pictures you attach 🙂 Fall is my favorite time of year…I love taking my family to Hood River to pick apples, the crisp feel to the air (not so much the rain) and sitting in front of my fireplace with excellent chocolate, a cup of tea and a good book to read. I usually end up with one of my cats on my lap as well – okay…that happens whenever I sit down – LOL.

Funny that Fall is slower for you when it seems crazier for me. I love your blog, Melia. It always makes me smile. Football takes over our house in Fall and that is probably the biggest reminder of the time of year for me. As this is the first time I’m not commuting in the rain, I must admit it’s wonderful to enjoy the change of season from home.
Hi Elizabeth. *Waving*
Apples – yum! Sounds like you have a wonderful family tradition going there. Which makes me wonder what apple orchards might be around my part of the world. Must research now. 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by, and for your kind words. They truly mean a lot to me!
Happy fall,
Melia
Football! Is there no better reminder that Fall is here? LOL.
I’m so glad you enjoy the blog, Maggie! Thanks for the visits, and the comments, and the all-around support. This aspiring author appreciates it!
Happy Fall,
-Melia
Rain. Finally we’re getting rain!
mmmm, hot chocolate! I love that about fall. I love the color of the trees and the sound of the leaves under my feet. I miss jumping in a giant pile of leaves, now this is considered ‘unacceptable’ since I’m not under 10 and need a much larger pile of leaves or it just hurts.
Hi Melia,
I love the crisp, autumn air and the falling leaves–and the opportunity to finish things before the year ends. By the way, I love the picture of your girl mug!
LOL, Eilis! You must have web feet! 🙂
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
-Melia
What? Don’t you have enough leaves to jump into? I’ll share! In fact, you can come rake them up yourself. (Just looking out for you!)
Lifting my hot chocolate to you on this exceptionally WET NIGHT. Cheers!
-Melia
Vonnie, hello. I love all those same things about Fall that you do – and I love that it’s slow enough for me to enjoy, too.
So glad you stopped by!

Hi Melia,
What I enjoy most about Fall is the cool, crisp weather. I do not do well in the heat. I also enjoy the preparations for Halloween. 🙂
Sarah
Halloween! Yes! I love seeing all the little kids who stop by – sooo cute!
Thanks for the comment, Sarah.

I grew up in Arizona, so Fall in Oregon is a treat. The change in weather, the trees, the smell of wet earth, I love it all. And, of course, the annual trip out to Lone Pine, although these days the kids aren’t content to do the corn maze in the daytime. Now they want to do the scare-your-pants-off, get chased with a chain saw, nighttime freak-fest. They are 8 and 11, which means I’ll be left dealing with their nightmares so, uh, no. Anyway, welcome back from ECO. Can’t wait to hear your adventures!
Can you believe I haven’t been through the corn maze? Not sure I’m up to it this year, either. LOL. Thank heavens Niece is old enough to do it on her own!
Thanks for stopping by, Mer. See you Saturday!!
Happy writing (because I KNOW you’re writing 🙂 )

I love that it is “farm ” time. Every October, ever since the children were young, we would go and visit farms for fresh produce, pumpkins and apple cider. We still do:)
Hi Melia, You can find out what I enjoy about this time of year by checking out my blog on Nov. 9th as part of the Autumn Blog hop. 😉 But my favorite part about this time of the year are the beautiful fall leaves. Living in the high desert I drink in all the color I can get.
Great post. I love the scent of drying leaves.
Melia,
One thing I love about fall is the color. Changing leaves on trees, bushes, even grasses. Here in Montana the main color change is gold of cottonwoods and aspen, with the grass already having gone a toasty brown earlier, in late summer.
And I love going to Emerald City con in Seattle and seeing my friends, meeting new ones and coming home charged to write! Gearing up to do final edits on a book, and then NaNoWriMo.
best,
Cathryn
I love the crunch of leaves under my feet as I take my morning walk – amazed at all the rich colors of the hillsides and parks, even the trees that line the streets. I enjoy all the baking and decorating, love the smell of apples and cinnamon stewing together on the stove and cookies baking in the oven.
In the evenings I bask in the warmth of the fireplace, prepared to write a few more pages before bedtime, and then snuggle under the covers to fall asleep with the sound of wind and rain dancing against the windows.
This year we are enjoying the sounds of laughter as my daughters play with our newly adopted 5-month-old kitten. He is going to keep us laughing for a long time.
I love autumn. It reminds me that there is beauty even when the garden is past its prime. There is hope in getting things battened down and ready for winter, and faith that we will weather the storms until the first buds of spring appear.
What a wonderful tradition! Thanks for sharing.
-Melia
Oooh, I’ll definitely have to stop by your blog! Leaves, yep — as long as they’re in the neighbors’ yards. 😉
-Melia
Hi Cecy! Great to meet you at ECWC!
Drying leaves, huh? I have to confess I didn’t realize they had a scent! Now I’m curious. Of course, if it ever stops raining, I might stop to “smell the leaves.”
-Melia
Ah, Emerald City Writers’ Conference — I have to admit that’s definitely one of my fall highlights! Wasn’t this last one particularly awesome? So great to see you there, Cathryn!

Ohmmigosh! Laurel, this gave me goosebumps!! Love it!
So glad you stopped by, dear friend. Happy writing!

Fall is my favorite time of year as well. A fire in the hearth. A pot of soup simmering. A glass of wine. A good book. A cozy blanket thrown over your lap. The crunching of leaves announcing a visitor. The anticipation of the holidays right around the corner. AND a trip to the Emerald City spending time with fellow writers and ‘gal pals’. Fall is by far, my favorite!!! It’s a season of romance 😉
Romance – Yay! 🙂 So great to see you and hang out for a bit. I’m soooo happy life’s treating you well – you deserve it!
Hugs,
Melia
