Happy Tiara Day!

Welcome to Fashionista Friday!

Halloween, according to Mr. A, is the one time of year I get to go to The Male Observation Lab as who I really am. 🙂 (For the record, I did NOT have a glass of wine this morning! Well, okay, I might’ve thought about it….)

20141031_165451Still, I found it interesting that none of the dudes thought it was odd. Guess that says something, huh?

Have an awesome weekend,
Melia

My Little Punkins

Welcome to Take Me Back Thursday!

Once upon a time, there were only two kitties in the Alexander home, Alexander James and Bennett Charles. Both were wonderfully curious kitties, and loved to explore anything new that came into their field of view. But then they got a baby sister. Things changed with this one, as neither boys liked her very much, and typically left any air space Chloe Marie was in. But at Halloween that year, there was a shift in the household.

See, Mr. A carved a pumpkin. And all three cautiously entered the breakfast nook. Seemed they had to explore the weird scraping and cutting along with the occasional expletive. (Have you ever carved one without swearing?) And for the first time, all three fur babies came together! No one hissed at anyone, no one swatted at anyone, and no one growled. It was beautiful!

That year, it took longer than usual to get the pumpkin carved and ready to be displayed. But who cared? The results were so worth it!

What fave Halloween memories do you have? Please share!

Happy Halloween Eve,
Melia

Party Like it’s 1999

Welcome to Travel Bug Tuesday!

My most recent trip to Las Vegas didn’t involve my fabulously talented Entangled Publishing sister author, Delilah Marvelle. Nor was there the kind of drama only she could get into! Oh, did you miss that post? Find it here.

But, back to Vegas. . ..

There’s amazing creativity in this city, one that’s reflected in everything from food to clothing to architecture, to the celebration of the seasons. At one shopping arcade, it was like walking into a Halloween display. But not in a scary way! Of course, La Muse had to throw her two cents in.

See, at night, after the mall closes and tourists presumably go to sleep (ha!), these babies slowly turn their heads from side to side . . . stretch their limbs out . . . and then the party begins! Yep, it’s true. The music mix of hip-hop, pop, country, and even some jazz blares out of the mall speakers until the sun comes up!

And on some nights, just to break it up, the Hallow-creatures stealthily slip into the shops and try on gorgeous clothes, match them up with accessories like HANDBAGS and SHOES! (In a high-end mall, wouldn’t you want to do the same?) Don’t even get me started on the decadent pieces of jewelry, dripping diamonds that catch the light so perfectly, along with strings of pearls and seemingly endless displays of emeralds and rubies. Can you imagine?!

So, yeah, maybe half of me wishes I could party and shop in one of these arcades all night. With trays of food . . . and great Cabernet (natch!) . . . and even a chocolate fountain. . .. And with my bestest gal pals!

Tell me where your travels have inspired your imagination!

Happy travels,
Melia

And the Winner is . . .

For the record, I told Niece and Niece 2 to keep it simple, swore that all they had to do was cut a few triangles into a pumpkin and they’d be good to go, but did they listen? Of course not! Especially after Niece 2 declared that there should be a pumpkin-carving contest.

And so the challenge began, because, after all, they’re my nieces, right? They carefully chiseled and sawed and cursed their way through three hours of creativity. (Which strangely sounds a lot like me when I plot out a story!) But Mr. A and I don’t know which one deserves the prize, so we’re leaving it up to you!

I now present, for your voting pleasure, the pumpkins:

20141026_183002The 2014 winner of the Alexander pumpkin-carving contest will be declared on Halloween, right before Niece heads off to a party. On Saturday, November 1st, the lucky winner will get to choose a donut for breakfast, complete with chocolate milk. (Hey, if you lived in my house, you’d see why this is a big deal!)

Please leave your vote in the comment below.

Happy Mash-Up Monday,
Melia

The Sights and Sounds of Fall

I love this time of year — hot chocolate, football, pumpkins, Halloween, more hot chocolate.  🙂 Even the rain makes me smile!  Okay, not really. . ..

To celebrate this slower, saner time of year (for me, anyway), I’ve got a contest going through October 31st for a $10 Amazon gift card.  Leave a comment (and contact information so if you win you can collect your prize) and tell me what you enjoy most about this time of year.

Good luck!
