Hello 2015!

Happy New Year!

This Take Me Back Thursday comes to you from the point in my life where Mr. A and I would go to the opera on New Year’s Eve. It seemed a fitting, civilized way to greet the New Year…We don’t do that anymore.

Still, pics like this are fun to revisit.

P1040323From our home to yours, we wish you all a happy, healthy, joyful 2015!

Hugs,
Melia

Santa Baby! (Take 2)

Merry Christmas!

Welcome to Take Me Back Thursday. Today’s post comes courtesy of Mr. Alexander and the wonderful surprise he gave me a couple of years ago.

If you want to read the original blog post (because I couldn’t figure out how to re-post the danged thing!), please click here.

And have a wonderful Christmas!

Snow Saucers

Having spent the past three days with family has made me realize how quickly time passes. One minute my nieces and nephews are in diapers, and the next, they’re these independent creatures with critical thinking skills that scare me. Seriously.

Look at how innocent they were just a few years ago.

P1040250Cute, huh?

Well, not so, when you consider they wouldn’t let me try out their new snow saucers. Yeah, I’m totally okay with it, even after all these years….*insert huge pout*

Happy Almost-Friday,

Kitty in a Bag

One of the things I lurrvv about the holidays is the newness of it all. Sure, there’s a tree and candy and gift wrap and Poinsettias and loads of cookies. There’s also Christmas music and parties and seeing friends and family. But each year, it’s somehow different. I know, I know. The same, but different.

Right about now my writer friends are snickering at what we often hear that editors and agents are looking for in our stories – the same, but different. But I digress….

This Take Me Back Thursday pic was from last year, shortly after Daniel Alexander came into our lives.

P1150982For him, everything was new, everything was exciting, and everything had to be explored. (Yay!) He climbed over packages under the tree, he batted at dangling ornaments on the tree, and if there was a bag sitting around, watch out! Nothing was sacred to this little guy. (Half chewed-on wrapped gift, anyone?)

And so it is again this year. But that’s a story yet to be written…. 🙂

Happy-almost-Friday,

Christmas Catnip

Welcome to Take Me Back Thursday!

Like most cat lovers, we give our fur babies Christmas prezzies. Their most fave is catnip – natch. I’m thoroughly convinced kitties can smell catnip even through extra-thick layers of plastic. And once a kitty gets his hands on it, watch out! It’s instant kitty love! 🙂 These pics from last year’s Christmas is the latest in a long list of examples.

Memories like these are what make life so much fun!

Are your fur babies on your Christmas list?

Happy almost-Friday,

Being Silly

Happy Take Me Back Thursday!

I do love looking at old photos. There’s so much to be said for the moment that’s captured and the kind of memories that are attached to it. Take this one, for instance:

Newport Visit_at the aquarium 7Niece 2 in one of her many playful moods. (Back then, anyway. These days she’s a brooding teen more often than not!) I swear we couldn’t get that girl out of the diver’s mask (is that even what it’s called?) that afternoon! And when we finally did, it involved some sort of bribe. (I forget now what it was. Ice cream?)

She giggled and giggled and GIGGLED, ducking in and out and in and out of the danged thing. And, yeah, it was too cute!

Do you sometimes look at photos so powerful they propel you back in time?

Happy almost-Friday,
~Melia

All That Hair

Once upon a time I was Rapunzel.

Well, okay, maybe I didn’t have blonde hair and wasn’t locked in a castle or anything even *close* to that. Nor did I have some dude who needed to climb my hair to get access to me … although that does bring up interesting story ideas! 😉

But given the short state of my hair these days, I’m sometimes surprised to see some of my past pics. And, yeah, I *SWEAR* that’s a candid shot of me that Mr. A took when we visited New Orleans quite a few years back.

a002_2Given that my head’s underneath a hard hat (or ball cap) at The Male Observation Lab, it’s no wonder I chopped all that hair off!

Think I should grow it back?

Happy Take Me Back Thursday,
Melia

My Little Punkins

Welcome to Take Me Back Thursday!

Once upon a time, there were only two kitties in the Alexander home, Alexander James and Bennett Charles. Both were wonderfully curious kitties, and loved to explore anything new that came into their field of view. But then they got a baby sister. Things changed with this one, as neither boys liked her very much, and typically left any air space Chloe Marie was in. But at Halloween that year, there was a shift in the household.

See, Mr. A carved a pumpkin. And all three cautiously entered the breakfast nook. Seemed they had to explore the weird scraping and cutting along with the occasional expletive. (Have you ever carved one without swearing?) And for the first time, all three fur babies came together! No one hissed at anyone, no one swatted at anyone, and no one growled. It was beautiful!

That year, it took longer than usual to get the pumpkin carved and ready to be displayed. But who cared? The results were so worth it!

What fave Halloween memories do you have? Please share!

Happy Halloween Eve,
Melia

Me and Mr. A

It’s Take Me Back Thursday from Disney World! (Circa a long time ago!)

IMG_0610Mr. Alexander and I still smile at the memories of this family reunion. Mom in her wheelchair, taking in the sights and sounds of the park. . .. Hubby hauling Niece 3 around – just because she held her arms up (the universal pick-me-up-and-carry-me-around-the-park symbol). . .. And laughter. Lots and lots and LOTS of laughter. . .. 🙂

These are the moments that add texture to life, right? What are the texture-like moments in your life?

Happy almost-Friday!

Hugs,
Melia
